In the past several weeks, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released several new press releases, including announcing the first-ever express entry invitations for French-speaking newcomers, a new immigration stream specific to health workers, and the first-ever express entry invitations for skilled newcomers with STEM experience.
- Canada announces First-Ever Express Entry invitations for French-speaking newcomers
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the first Francophone round for category-based selection. This focus on French-speaking newcomers will help promote the French language and address labour shortages in communities outside of Quebec.
- Canada announces First-Ever Express Entry invitations for skilled newcomers with STEM experience
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, on behalf of the Honourable Minister Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the first STEM round for category-based selection will open the week of July 5. This focus on candidates with STEM expertise will help Canada’s science and technology sector, bringing in the skilled talent that businesses need to drive innovation and achieve their growth potential.
STEM expertise will include data scientists, software developers and programmers, mathematicians, statisticians and actuaries, and electrical and electronics engineers.
- Canada announces new immigration stream specific to health workers
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health announced a dedicated round of invitations to be sent to health workers, including doctors, nurses, dentists, physiotherapists and optometrists. The first round for category-based selection will open today and will invite 500 health workers to apply. A second round, inviting 1,500 workers to apply, will take place on July 5, 2023.
By focusing on candidates with health care expertise and by bringing in the talent the country needs, this measure will help improve access to health care services for Canadians and their families.
- Minister Fraser launches Canada’s first-ever Tech Talent Strategy at Collision 2023
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship launched Canada’s first-ever Tech Talent Strategy. This new strategy includes new measures and improvements on existing measures to help businesses in Canada thrive in a competitive landscape.
